T-Mobile launches myTouch 3G; no plans for HTC Hero

While Google Chrome OS is the hottest news right now, Google's Android OS is still revving to invade the smartphone market. At the T-Mobile myTouch 3G launch event in New York City this morning, T-Mobile execs announced that the T-Mobile myTouch 3G is available for online pre-orders starting today. Delivery is guaranteed by August 5.
If you haven't read anything about the myTouch 3G, go on over to t-mobilemytouch.com and check it out. The slick, full touchscreen handset wowed us (see our review of the Google ION, a similar version of the myTouch 3G) and the Android OS 1.5 update brings in some much-needed features and smoother aesthetics.
When asked if they had any plans for the HTC Hero, T-Mobile CTO Cole Brodman said that the carrier "has no plans to bring the HTC Hero to market." The HTC Hero is another full touch Android-based phone with a revamped HTC-branded user interface. The device is the first Android smartphone to support multi-touch (ala the iPhone and the Palm Pre) and--even better--Adobe Flash.
T-Mobile was a safe bet for the Hero since the carrier launched the only other HTC-manufactured Android handsets. Personally, I would love to see one of the CDMA carriers, Sprint or Verizon, get a little Android love. Either way, I, among many others, can't wait to see this phone come to market.
