Twitter tributes: death may come in threes

Celebrities and fans flock to pay respects

Thousands have paid tribute over social media Web site Twitter to the deaths of pop legend Michael Jackson and actress Farrah Fawcett.

Jackson, 50, was pronounced dead today after Los Angeles paramedics found him in full cardiac arrest and could not resuscitate him at the UCLA Medical Centre.

Fawcett, a 1970s icon who rose to fame as Jill Munroe in Charlie's Angels, died in hospital after succumbing to cancer at 62.

Rumours are also circulating on Twitter of the death of actor Jeff Goldblum from an alleged on-set accident while filming in New Zealand. Goldbum is famous for roles in Jurassic Park and Independence Day.

Celebrities have paid tribute to Jackson, including Demi Moore, husband Ashton Kutcher, Martha Stewart, Britney Spears, Ice-T, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and gossip columnist Perez Hilton.

Moore said: “I am greatly saddened for the loss of both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. Especially for their children!”

Ice-T said: "Rest In Peace Mike. People can say what they want but you were 100% original. WE will always love , miss & remember your GREATNESS."

Justin Timberlake said: "R.I.P. Farrah"

Spears said: "He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed."

Martha Stewart said: "I am waiting to see if the rumors are true about Michael Jackson if he has indeed died I am very sorry I am also very saddened about FF."

Goldblum's wikipedia page has been placed under editorial lock-down.

Twitter is often used as a forum for tributes for deaths and major catastrophes including the death of Australian actor Heath Ledger and the recent Air France crash.
