A longtime Microsoft developer evangelist and 19-year company veteran who has of late been in charge of Microsoft's startup program will retire later this year, the company confirmed on Monday
Sanjay Parthasarathy, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Startup Business Accelerator (SBA), will leave Microsoft in September, the company said via e-mail. Startup Business Accelerator is an incubation business aimed at forming startups from within Microsoft.
"Sanjay made the decision to retire late last year for personal reasons and has been actively involved in transitional plans," according to Microsoft.
Parthasarathy plans to return to his birthplace of India with his family after his retirement, the company said.
Microsoft Corporate Vice President Amit Mital will take over the SBA organization, reporting to Microsoft Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie. Mital also will continue to lead Microsoft's Unlimited Potential Group, which is his current duty.
Prior to taking over Startup Business Accelerator in February of last year, Parthasarathy spent a number of years in Microsoft's Developer and Platform Evangelism Group in charge of spreading the word about Microsoft's developer technologies to students, partners, developers and IT professionals.
Other group activities under Parthasarathy's charge were Microsoft's Channel 9 Web site, the Imagine Cup competition for students and managing Microsoft's relationships with its ISV (independent software vendor) partners.
