Optus has announced it will offer Apple's new iPhone 3G S smartphone from June 26.

The telco has started accepting details for updates on the device, including when it will be available in store, on its iPhone Web site at: www.optus.com.au/iphoneinfo.

Optus already offers the iPhone 3G 8GB and 16GB models on its network with bundled voice and data services.

Announced at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference this week, the iPhone 3G S is “the fastest iPhone ever”, according to Apple, and is twice as fast as its predecessor, the iPhone 3G.

Other enhancements include video capture and editing functionality, a new three megapixel camera, voice controls, a digital compass, PC-like “cut, copy and paste”, an Internet tethering, which allows the iPhone to be used as a USB modem.

Apple has also made available a beta iPhone SDK for the iPhone OS 3.0 which includes new APIs and developer tools.

With the new SDK developers can add new features like in-app purchases, peer-to-peer connection via Bluetooth, communication with hardware accessories, and alerts using Apple Push Notification service, according to Apple.

Surprise, surprise. The Optus links, like their 3G network, aren't working.

Bring it on!

Bring on the new iPhone! I held out until the new model... Apparently Optus plans were the best value last time around, I'll be interested to see what they offer on this one. As for the network, pfft, the only competition in that area is Telstra and who wants to pay their fees!

When will Apple provide updates for 3G iphones so the can send msm.

They should be looking after people who already have an iphone and provide them updates to allow the iphone to do all the basic features a phone should have already.

I think its time to go back to the trusty Nokia.

My uncle will most probably pick it up from the Sydney Apple Retail Store, now the phones available there, are they locked to either Vodafone/Telstra/Optus, or are they Unlocked?
Sure enough, the operators have the ability to unlock iPhones, and apparently some of them do it upon request for free, but I don't think any of them sell it unlocked. Some people are saying that the handsets sold in the Apple store are unlocked though.

I updated my iphone 3G to 3.0 but it isn't letting me have the option to send MSM.

Why is that?
