Some Optus corporate customers in the Sydney CBD experienced an interruption to their telephony and DSL services on Monday afternoon following a power failure in one of the telco’s data centres.
The power-out occurred at 3pm in an Optus building located on Elizabeth St.
“Optus worked with our energy provider and restored services as a matter of urgency with all services back up and running by 5.30pm,” said an Optus spokesperson.
“We cannot confirm how many customers have been impacted.”

Is it the heat?
What's going in Australia? We're seeing a different telco serving falling down every day.
This is just a joke.
Darren Pauli - Computerworld journalist
Actually heat is the culprit if the South Australian and Victorian governments are believed. They blamed last week's heatwave for knocking out public transport and the electricity grid.

Energy has not had sufficient investment in Australia
For years state governments have plundered the coffers of utilities to cover their spending elsewhere. Now we have inadequate infrastructure. This is nothing to do with the telcos and everything to do with inept governments focusing on the short term rather than what is best for our country.
