Enterprise software maker Infor Global Solutions quietly laid off about 5 percent of its roughly 9,000 workers last week, making it the latest of its peers to trim staff during the economic downturn.
With about US$2.2 billion in revenue during its fiscal 2008, the Alpharetta, Georgia, company is seen as the world's third-largest ERP (enterprise resource planning) vendor after Oracle and SAP. Infor also sells a range of other products, including CRM (customer relationship management) and SCM (supply chain management) software.
So far this year, Oracle and SAP have not announced layoffs, but some other ERP vendors, such as Epicor and Lawson Software have.
In a statement, Infor said that like many companies, it is "aligning its workforce to reflect the realities of the global economy," adding that Infor is "a healthy, profitable company," and the job cuts "position it for exceptional growth when the economy recovers."
A spokesman declined on Friday to provide further details, such as the type of jobs affected by the cuts.
