Valorem uniquely deploys RSA SecurID for remote workforce management
 19 November, 2008 10:16

RSA Professional Services integrates RSA SecurID Authentication Manager to develop the Praxeo Remote Token Service for Valorem

RSA, The Security Division of EMC (NYSE: EMC), today announced that Valorem Systems Australia Pty Ltd (Valorem) has engaged RSA Professional Services to develop the custom Praxeo Remote Token Service.

Valorem is a leading Australian provider of systems and site automation tools to the facilities management industry and has uniquely deployed RSA SecurID Authentication Manager to give its clients a means to centrally manage remote and contract employees across dispersed small work sites.

Jon Tinberg, Managing Director, Valorem, explained, “We identified tokens as a way to provide a practical solution for these clients, so approached RSA to ask whether we could deploy its tokens for this kind of system. RSA’s Professional Services team had no problem understanding our unusual idea and was more than happy to provide custom integration services and facilitate our unique way of using their tokens.”

Valorem was driven to develop a token system by an increasing number of clients needing central management of contractors working at smaller sites, such as suburban office buildings. Valorem has an existing solution for remote management which requires the installation of a full-service contractor kiosk at each site, but this proved impractical and just not cost effective for clients with smaller sites.

To meet this demand, the Valorem Praxeo Remote Token Service works as a means of checking employee start and finish times for shifts or booked work across multiple sites. Each site is fixed with a token, then upon arrival and/or departure employees SMS the current code displayed on the token back to a central system which decrypts that SMS code to determine the exact corresponding time. For example, cleaners working at a number of school, retail and commercial sites in one shift or security guards moving around different industrial sites. It also meets employer duty of care requirements, reassuring management that remote staff are safe.

Tinberg continued, “RSA was very quick to understand our requirements, within two weeks we had working models of the technology. Plus they helped us build the system so it would leverage all our existing packages including web portal login and alerts by SMS or email for managers. It’s been successful too, we’ve already sold half the tokens with increased demand expected in 2009 as companies look for cost effective ways to manage their businesses.”

David Clarkson, Director – Professional Services (Asia Pacific), RSA, The Security Division of EMC, said, “The Valorem custom integration is a great example of the value our Professional Services team delivers. RSA not only worked with Valorem to deliver a completely unique token system designed to meet their very specific needs but also turned the project around within a month.”
