 12 November, 2008 08:57

Sydney, Australia -– November 12, 2008 – Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today unveiled the Adaptec Series 1 Unified Serial™ Host Bus Adapter (HBA) family featuring two low-profile cards that deliver the industry’s most scalable data storage connectivity solution, supporting up to 128 SATA or SAS storage devices, at an entry-level price point stating at an RRP of $269 including GST in Australia.

“The new Series 1 family brings Adaptec’s Unified Serial architecture to the HBA market and fills a significant market need for highly-scalable, cost-effective and high-performance connectivity in a wide range of growing storage environments,” said Suresh Panikar, director, Worldwide Marketing, Adaptec. “The Series 1 family completes our Unified Serial product line, and complements our high-performance, award-winning Series 5 RAID controllers and the value-oriented RAID Series 2 products.”

Adaptec Series 1 HBAs are designed to maximise scalability and provide system integrators, system builders, resellers, OEMs, and IT managers with optimum flexibility. They are ideal for systems requiring connectivity to hard disks, tape drives, removable media, solid state drives (SSD), RBODs (RAID Bunch of Disks), expanders, and JBODs. The new Series 1 HBAs are also ideal for tape autoloaders and libraries widely used for data backup and archiving. For customers requiring RAID support, the Series 1 offers the ability to customise data protection by adding RAID via operating system software.

The Adaptec Series 1 family features the Adaptec 1405 with four internal ports and the Adaptec 1045 with four external ports. Each model meets a wide range of data storage I/O requirements and integrates the latest PCIe connectivity and broad operating system support, including Windows, Linux and FreeBSD. Series 1 is compatible with more than 200 I/O devices, making it the industry’s most compatible HBA. Series 1 Pricing & Availability
