Optus claims industry first with pre-paid wireless broadband
Options for wireless broadband and Internet access have expanded with Optus announcing it will offer a pre-paid wireless broadband service in what it claims is an industry first.
Optus’ first pre-paid wireless broadband offer is for $199 which includes a USB modem, SIM card and 2GB of data allowance.
Wireless broadband access can be “recharged” for $30 for 30 days at various retail outlets including 7-Eleven, Video Ezy, NewsLink newsagents, Shell petrol stations, Woolworths, Target, Dick Smith, Coles or online at Optus.
To promote the new service, Optus will conduct a national TV, online and print advertising campaign dubbed “Broadband Unplugged – Now available in Pre-Paid”.
Optus’ consumer group marketing director Michael Smith said the company is continuing to see a “strong thirst” for mobile wireless broadband, and a pre-paid version means more customers can get online “on their own terms”.
“Optus is incredibly excited to launch this industry first product,” Smith said, adding there are no bills or long-term contracts, and “easy connection”.
