Defence e-mail goes off-the-shelf

Classification software used by 35 govt agencies

The Australian Department of Defence (DoD) has purchased a new e-mail classification system to reduce data loss and maintain compliance with federal regulations.

The Canadian-designed software will support more than 100,000 DoD users and handle millions of e-mails sent annually through Microsoft Outlook, Web Access and Windows Mobile.

Microsoft managing director of worldwide public safety and national security Tim Bloechl said the Titus Labs solution is used by 35 Australian government departments and agencies.

"Our worldwide public sector customers now have the ability to force their personnel to classify messages and help protect data integrity," Bloechl said.

The off-the-shelf platform will replace DoD in-house developed software and sort e-mails in accordance with the Australian Email Protective Marking Standard Copy brief.
