Upwards movements change Yahoo!'s top team

Big changes will be in force at the Australia and New Zealand operation of Internet player Yahoo! in April when the company's regional operations are shifted Down Under. Tony Faure, now managing director of the Australasian operation, will move upwards to become regional vice president for south Asia, with responsibility for India, Singapore, Australia and NZ.

Faure, who The Rust Report first met in 1995 when he was advertising sales manager for Alan Power's Computer Week revamp of Pacific Computer Weekly for APN, was understandably delighted with the move. "It's fantastic that we'll be headquartering these operations in Australia," he raved. "It's a great show of support for the strength of our local team and business."

As Faure moves upstairs others will shift up to fill the gaps, including Nic Jones who will leave his position as commercial director to become managing director for Australia and NZ. He will still report to Faure.

At the same time, Darren Gocher, finance director for Yahoo! Australia, and Peter Everingham, director of corporate development, will both take positions in the regional operation. Their replacements have not yet been appointed.

At a local level, Yahoo! has recently made a number of appointments, including:

Tracy Forbes has joined from Excite as news and finance producer; Matthew Ford has moved from DoubleClick to take the job as sales manager for Victoria; Chris Greenwood has also moved from the DoubleClick debacle to become sales development manager; Leigh Walters, formerly of VNU business publications, has been appointed sales account manager; Stuart Granger, has been appointed legal manager; and Jeremiah Johnson, who was previously with Verio in the US, has been appointed "site ops engineer".
