Netgear recalls faulty adapter
XE103 Powerline Ethernet Adapter recalled
Andrew Hendry (ARN)  08 January, 2008 12:10

Netgear is conducting a recall of its XE103 Powerline Ethernet Adapter after testing revealed circuitry malfunction that could cause the product to stop working and potentially overheat.

The recall only applies to countries that use 220-240 volt power outlets, which includes Australia, Europe and China.

The recall accounts for approximately 82,000 XE103 units.

Testing of the product revealed a malfunction of a semiconductor integrated circuit when used in these 220-240 volt environments.

The company claimed that it has not received any reports of personal injury or damage to property related to the malfunction.

"Although we do not know of any injury or damage caused by the affected Powerline Ethernet Adapter, the safety and satisfaction of our customers remain our top priorities," said Netgear CEO Patrick Lo.

Customers that own the XE103 adapter or are unsure what model they own can go online here and enter in the serial number located on the back of the product to check if it is the affected model.

Netgear will replace the XE103 with an updated model, the XEPS103 Powerline Adapter, free of charge including postage and handling.
