Sybase and Brother appoint Australian MDs

New chief to extend database foothold

Former Teradata executive, Dereck Daymond, has been appointed A/NZ managing director of Sybase.

Daymond is responsible for executing the enterprise infrastructure and mobile software company's business strategy in the region.

His IT experience spans 16 years with Daymond announcing he will focus on extending the company's foothold in the database market into new growth areas such as business intelligence and mobility. Before joining Sybase, Daymond was the general manager of sales at Teradata Australia, where he grew the hardware, software and professional services business.

Prior to Teradata, he worked as Asia Pacific executive consultant for the Objective Corporation, an Australian provider of electronic record and knowledge management, portal and workflow software. From 1996 to 2002 Daymond held various roles at Ascential Software, formerly Informix Software, including vice president of Asia Pacific, Japan and Africa.

Daymond began his career at Oracle and has an MBA from the University of South Africa.

At the same time, Brother International has appointed Yoshi Sugimoto as Australian managing director. Sugimoto joins the Australian team from Brother Industries Japan, where he has worked since 1986.
