NSW solution provider plays doctor at new in-house demo room

NSW infrastructure solutions provider, Tardis Services, has opened a $150,000 IBM demonstration and proof-of-concept centre inside its North Ryde headquarters.

The 20sqm dedicated solutions room is the first IBM Business Partner Innovation Centre (BPIC) in Australia.

Previously, partners wanting to test IBM solutions would generally use IBM's own facilities, according to Tardis Services pre-sales manager, Phil Jones.

"We have been talking to customers and they want to get their hands on the gear and do some proof-of-concept," Jones said. "It's only the third IBM BPIC in the Asia-Pacific region."

Three staffers from the integrator's pre-sales team, including Jones, will manage the centre, which was developed and funded jointly with Big Blue.

The room has already been stocked with IBM System p, System i, System Storage and Bladecenter hardware, harnessing Intel, AMD and Power blade processing technologies.

Software solutions include IBM Tivoli, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and VMware.

Tardis would review and update the solutions and hardware as the need arose, Jones said.

"We've already had a lot of customers go through and the centre has only been open a couple of weeks," he said.

Tardis itself formerly used IBM's facilities. Jones said Tardis would use the centre for training its own staff and could take the equipment out on road shows as well.

IBM global business partner director, Andrew Baker, said in a statement that Tardis had a strong track record so was an ideal choice as its first BPIC host.

The BPIC network was a worldwide IBM and partner initiative, he said.
