Let the IT service management games begin
IT managers play to win
Sandra Rossi  10 October, 2007 11:28

Any attempt to make IT Service Management (ITSM) interesting can only be described as a challenge. But gaming provider G2G3 has made it happen with a highly-interactive and energetic simulation which brings to life the obstacles of ITSM implementation.

Australia based, Solisma will license the Polestar IT Service Management (ITSM) simulation from G2G3 as part of its range of service management consulting, assessment and education services.

Polestar ITSM brings to life best practice ITSM in the context of a realistic and exhilarating scenario.

Solisma director, Michael Nyhuis, said this unique experiential learning approach creates accelerated understanding of service management to large audiences and transforms learning into an engaging, fun and highly memorable shared experience.

Polestar ITSM is the world's first simulation to be based around the latest version of the  Service Management best practice framework, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Version 3.

Nyhuis said Solisma's services also cover Cobit and ISO/IEC 20000.

G2G3 CEO, Mark Ross Sutherland, said the ITSM simulation is a high-impact way to create breakthrough understanding of the benefits of ITSM across the entire business.

ITIL Version 3 was released earlier this year and one of its chief architects, Sharon Taylor, said training is important in an ITIL implementation because it involves cultural change and a fair degree of planning.

"You can't ram and refine ITIL," she added.

Organizations such as JPMorgan Chase and Toyota have successfully adopted previous versions of the framework and any refresh will require further training. Also, there are a number of changes in the new version.

Forrester analyst J.P. Garbany believes version three is a good reflection of the technological times.

"Some processes included in version two have simply proved themselves outdated because many software offerings have made them redundant," he said.

"Today's software products provide more intelligence than the products we had 10 years ago. This changes the process because they may completely skip a step in the previous (ITIL) process, as the product provides more intelligence right out of the box."

Customer Relationship Success Demands Insight

The goal of over 85% of companies implementing CRM is to increase revenue by better understanding their customers. Unfortunately the insight is often buried deep in a database. This paper discusses how analytics can help businesses understand the appropriate actions by sales, customer service and marketing to support the creation of relationships that yield maximum customer value.
