US ISP Network Solutions has inked a deal with Queensland domain name distributor Domain Distribution Network (DDN) to resell 'aftermarket' domain names.
The Queensland company harvests already registered but expired or parked Internet domain names and resells them to all types of end-users, including businesses and consumers.
"The potential list of meaningful domains available for new registration is becoming extremely limited," DDN said in an announcement to the ASX.
"By contrast, 'aftermarket' domains are like real estate. They continue to appreciate and a robust resale market has developed for these existing domains."
Network Solutions was an ICANN-accredited domain name registrar, so it could legally on-sell domain names to customers around the world, increasing DDN's customer reach, the company said.
"[DDN] acts as a technology partner to allow registrars a clean and efficient means to monitor, maintain, and transact in the complex aftermarket channel of the domain space," it said.
DDN said it offered registrars a way to authenticate who actually owned a domain name that was up for sale for whatever reason, preventing fraud and trademark abuse.
