Database hack thorn in Roses Only side

NSW Police setup Strikeforce Parkview to combat potential theft of Roses Only customer information

A potential database breach of the online florist, Roses Only, may have resulted in the theft of sensitive information, including customers credit card details.

A statement given to Computerworld by a media liaison officer at the State Crime Command Fraud Squad said:

"A Strikeforce [Parkview] has been setup by the Fraud Squad to investigate the possible compromise of an Internet based business database and subsequent fraudulent financial transactions."

"The NSW Police Force has been working closely with financial institutions which have implemented strategies to minimise further risk."

"As the Strikeforce Parkview investigation is ongoing, no further information will be released at this time."

Roses Only released a statement last Friday stating they had been advised that their system may have been compromised through an unauthorised intrusion earlier in the year.

"We moved quickly to address the situation and engaged a leading international technology security firm to enhance the security of our system.

"Police have been conducting an investigation into the matter. Customers can be reassured that they are not liable for any unauthorised transactions and should contact their financial institution if they have any concerns. "Roses Only regrets any inconvenience caused to its loyal customers as a result of this offence against us and wants to reassure customers that as a result of the security enhancement they can have utmost confidence in future online transactions."
