Australia Post becomes a gatekeeper

Australia Post has been accredited to deliver the Government's Gatekeeper service through 73 of its postal outlets.

Through its KeyPost service, Australia Post will pay a role in increasing nationwide access to digital certificates to enable secure digital communication and the delivery of government services online.

Under the Gatekeeper strategy, certification authorities issue digital certificates to individuals and organisations who apply to purchase certificates. KeyPost will inform the certification authority of an applicant and the authority will then issue the digital certificate to the applicant.

The number of postal outlets able to deliver this service is expected to expand to approximately 400 by the end of 2002.

Australia Post joins five other organisations that have achieved Gatekeeper accreditation: Baltimore Certificates Australia, eSign Australia, the Australian Taxation Office, Health eSignature Authority and Telstra.
