Retail giant set to resell whitelabel VoIP service

Freshtel expands in European market

Voice over IP (VoIP) provider Freshtel Holdings has signed a letter of intent to offer its whitelabel service with mobile phone vendor Effortel to enable mobile calls over the Internet.

The collectively-managed service will allow retail giant Carrefour to operate its own re-branded virtual cellular network which it has already deployed in its Belgium and Italy stores.

The acting CEO of ASX-listed Freshtel Holdings, Peter Warner, said the letter is the first step for its future collaboration plans with the mobile vendor.

"Effortel will be a valuable strategic partner and this letter is important in moving our initial discussions with Carrefour," Warner said.

"The partnership will benefit both parties because Effortel is strong in the European market and our technology will assist them with providing cutting edge mobile solutions." The Effortel technical platform offers retailers a re-branded VoIP mobile telecommunications service dubbed a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Freshtel and Effortel will immediately begin the marketing analysis and business plan for the alliance.

Carrefour rolled out its Italian MVNO resale business in Italy earlier this month and signed a wholesale agreement with Vodafone Italy to use its network capacity.
