Food manufacturer's supply chain turns to gold

Queensland food manufacturer Golden Circle Limited is juicing up its supply chain with a 15 month project that includes a new inventory system, integrating key applications and ditching its in-house developed database.
The information system is based on Mainpac's Mainet, the Microsoft .NET-based enterprise asset management software package.
Golden Circle will combine operational and financial asset management support by utilising Mainet's maintenance, inventory and purchasing modules which will be underpinned by a financial assets module.
A new information system, the hub of which is Microsoft's BizTalk server, integrates Mainet with Golden Circle's other key applications such as financial, manufacturing, supply chain, the customer management system MFG/PRO and MoveX, as well as the Hagemeyer inventory system which manages the maintenance store and stock.
The company, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, also struggled with its in-house developed database and fixed asset system.
Golden Circle maintenance systems and inventory area owner, Kerry Gilliland, said fixed asset functionality was pivotal in Golden Circle's decision to select Mainet after both the maintenance and accounting departments independently selected the software. "We recognised the need for a system to provide easy access to information on maintenance and asset management issues and to eliminate double handling of data between maintenance and purchasing/inventory systems," Gilliland said. "Implementation will be on-going over the next twelve months. The success of the project will be measured against defined outcomes during that time." Prior to commencing the rollout, Mainpac worked with Golden Circle to develop a project plan which included task allocation and a go live date.
Staff from IT, accounting, maintenance and production all contributed to the plan.
The solution will initially be rolled out at Brisbane headquarters before being introduced to the Mill Park plant in Victoria. Golden Circle is well known for its beverages sold under the Original Juice brand. Mainpac Pty Ltd is an Australian-owned software development company now in its 23rd year.
