ATO tenders for chief architect
New blood to drive change
Michael Crawford  09 November, 2006 15:45

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is tendering for an enterprise architect to lead its existing change management project until June 30, 2007.

Documents state final delivery for phase 3 of the three-year project is scheduled for 2007. The enterprise architect is needed to plan, initiate and complete corporate requirements or aid integration for project teams.

Deadline for the tender is November 17, 2006. The tender states the successful applicant will be responsible for defining the structure, services and information provided by each component of the enterprise architecture, as well as mentoring personnel

"The enterprise architect will perform modelling of enterprise architecture and IT strategy information to answer specific focus questions, support for architects and strategists in using the tools (primarily Metis) and methods adopted by the Tax Office; and project management of delivery of extensions to the enterprise architecture modelling and reporting capability," the tender states.

"All roles expect some reliance on highly developed design and modelling skills, particularly object orientated or information modelling skills in the applications space, and an understanding of IT strategy.

"Under minimum direction, the enterprise architect will plan, initiate and complete the more complex tasks involved in supporting the practice of enterprise architecture, and resolve issues related to corporate requirements or integration for project teams. Some of the more central tasks may include the maintenance of complex models of IT systems, evaluation of the suitability of the standard modeling and publication tools to the business needs; and management of the delivery of models, content and publications."

The ATO is currently implementing various software packages to support the change program, including portal software, client relationship management, content management and enterprise application and integration software and is working with a program implementation partner.

The ATO environment comprises Z-class mainframes running on z/OS (Z-series Operating System) and DB2, midrange databases on SQL Server, .Net/IIS for application and Web servers and a nationwide LAN for Windows desktops. Citrix Metaframe is used to support mobile computing and data warehousing and business intelligence software through NCR Worldmark, Terradata and Cognos.
