Intel is offering a $US1 million bounty in its search for stylish PC design.
The bounty is being offered as part of the Intel Core Processor Challenge and will go to the PC designer and manufacturer that designs the most stylish home PC powered by Intel Viiv technology and the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
Systems will be judged on attributes of style, acoustics, functionality, features and optimized multimedia entertainment.
The Intel Core Processor Challenge is open to PC designers and manufacturers worldwide. Companies may submit up to five different and original designs based on Intel Viiv technology and the Intel Core 2 Duo processors.
Vice president and general manager for Intel's digital home group, Eric Kim, said Intel is putting its money where its mouth is.
He claimed consumers today consider size, shape and style and Intel wants to discard the "big, beige box" image of PCs.
Applications need to be submitted by January 2007 and systems must be received by March 1.
The winner is expected to be announced at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco during March 2007.
The first-place winner will also receive up to $US300,000 to enable the mass production of their winning system.
Systems submitted for the challenge must be fully functional and cannot be in the market before March 2007.
