IBM preps app to manage grid environments
Cara Garretson (Network World)  18 September, 2006 08:01

IBM on Tuesday introduced new software in its Tivoli line designed to help users better manage their grid environments. The announcement was made at the GridWorld conference in Washington, D.C.

Called the Tivoli Dynamic Workload Broker and slated for availability Oct. 6, the software offers a central point for prioritizing, managing and integrating workloads and data across a grid, according to company officials. The software matches an infrastructure's resources with workload requests without requiring administrators to get involved.

The new software is an extension of the Tivoli Workload Scheduler that brings its capabilities into a virtual environment to cluster, schedule, and manage workloads across a grid, they say. The software can also be leveraged for service-oriented architecture environments to accelerate the integration of batch functions.

Tivoli Dynamic Workload Broker is the latest release in IBM's Batch-on-Grid product portfolio, designed to create batch workloads in grid systems and then automate the scheduling and management of those workloads, officials say.

Pricing for the new software has not yet been announced.
