RailCorp has issued a tender for $620,000 worth of networking equipment.
The tender requirements include new Synchronous Digital Hierarchy networking equipment, Channel Multiplexer (CM) equipment and a network management system.
According to the RFT, the new technology will replace the existing, eight-year-old communications system.
RailCorp would not disclose details of current equipment providers, but a spokesperson said installation will begin as part of a two-year supply agreement, rather than a contracted timeframe.
However, a separate maintenance contract has also been proposed under a 12-month agreement, with an option for annual extensions.
The Synchronous Transport/Transmission Module for STM-1, STM-4 and STM-16 will interface with single mode optical fibre at 155.52Mbit/s, 622.08 Mbit/s or 2488.32 Mbit/s, while the CM equipment will require a modem link interface with speeds of 4.8Kb/s - 2048Kb/s.
Krone insulation displacement modules will be used to terminate the 2Mbit/s streams to the SDH equipment.
Security for SDH equipment will feature logon passwords for varied levels of clearance to protect access to configuration and testing.
Training in configuration, installation, testing, fault and alarm troubleshooting, network architecture and design engineering will be required for 30 staff.
