Alcatel appoints Nick Whitehead as the general manager for Alcatel’s Triple Play triple play activities in Asia Pacific

Sydney, 11 May 2005 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced the appointment of Nick Whitehead as the General Manager of Alcatel’s triple play (voice, data and video service bundle) activities in the Asia Pacific region. The appointment reinforces Alcatel’s determination to lead in this fast-growing market as well as its commitment to bringing telecom operators new revenue opportunities.

In this role, Mr Whitehead will be responsible for all major aspects of Alcatel’s triple play business in the region including go-to-market activities, end-to-end solution development and deployment from his base in Sydney, Australia. Leveraging Alcatel’s global and experience in triple play, Nick will also work hand-in-hand with telecom operators in their triple play strategy development.

“Triple play is often misunderstood. It is more than the delivery of voice, video, and data. Triple play also enables the delivery of multiple end-user centric broadband services such as IPTV and VoIP, over one single network,” said Nick Whitehead. “From content providers to network access providers, the convergence of communications and content-oriented markets is enabling market players to reap the financial rewards from new broadband services.”

“The Asia Pacific region is now seeing roll-out of User-Centric Broadband services. Such services offer end users a unified and personalised experience revolving around their needs and identity regardless of the device they use,” said Vince Pizzica, Chief Technology Officer of Alcatel in Asia Pacific. “We are confident that Nick will bring a consolidated focus to our triple play business and deliver on Alcatel’s User-Centric Broadband vision by helping our customers capitalise on the emerging, promising market opportunities from triple play”

Prior to this appointment, Nick held a number of senior positions across a range of faculties at Alcatel, including research and development, operations, project management, sales and account management, business development and business management.
