Computer Associates International (CA) has named former Hewlett-Packard (HP) global operations head Jeff Clarke as its executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO).
Clarke abruptly left HP last November, for undisclosed reasons. CA said it tapped him for his nearly 20 years experience in the technology industry. He was vice president of finance and CFO of Compaq Computer Corp. from 2001 until Compaq's merger with Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2002, and continued as executive vice president of global operations with HP until his resignation.
Clarke will take over the post of CA's CFO Douglas Robertson, who has held the position on an interim basis for the past six months, CA said.
Clarke joins at a difficult time for CA. His predecessor, Ira Zar, resigned along with two other CA executives in October 2003 after being asked to do so by the company as a result of government investigations into the company's accounting practices during the 1990s. Robertson took over the role until a successor could be found.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Kumar said in February that CA will continue to operate "under a cloud" until the government completes its investigations. In January, the company received notice from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that the SEC is considering a civil enforcement action against CA.
CA's board has also been running its own investigation into the accounting practices.
