Government finally appoints its new IT boss.

The Federal Government has officially signed up Glenys Roper to the permanent position of Chief Government Information Officer, previously held by Andy McDonald.

Roper, who had been acting in the position as head of the Office of Government Information Technology since mid November last year, is set to hold her appointment for a period of three years.

According to the Minister for Finance and Administration, John Fahey, the role of the CGIO is to bring a strategic, whole of government approach to the utilisation of information technology and telecommunications activities within Commonwealth departments and agencies.

Included in OGIT's range of initiatives announced by the Prime Minister late last year are the Fedlink, Internet 2001 and the development of a Common-wealth Information Centre.
